DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) - Drivers are struggling with the newly

repaved surface at Darlington Raceway.

Two-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson was one of many drivers

to wreck on the smooth and speedy surface during two practice

sessions today.

Johnson says he has a feeling fans are going to see a lot of

wrecks at tomorrow night's Dodge Charger 500 and tonight's

Nationwide Series race.

The new pavement has smoothed out the trademark - but pesky -

bumps that drove drivers nuts and gave all of them their fair share

of "Darlington Stripes" as they scraped the walls.

The new surface has also made the track very fast. Several

drivers went faster than 200 miles per hour along the backstretch

during a March tire test.
