Columbia--Marcus Rowland entered Saturday's South Carolina State Track and Field Championship not only hoping to win the AAAA 100 meters but also hoping the wind was in his favor at Spring Valley High School's Harry Parone Stadium as he chased a 17-year-old record in the event.
And the Dorman High senior received cooperation from Mother Nature and posted a speed of 10.35 for the new standard, breaking the previous speed of 10.4 by Spartanburg's Stephen Davis in 1991.
The Auburn-bound Rowland had previous records at this particular track denied due to wind conditions.
