Teacher killed while cycling in Inman

WSPA Staff - SPARTANBURG Co., S.C. (WSPA) – A Spartanburg County teacher is dead after he was struck by a car while riding a bike.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on New Cut Road near the intersection of Hannon Road in Inman.

The coroner says Jeffrey Gordon Pierce, 53, was riding a bike when he was hit from behind and thrown from the bike. Pierce died at the scene.

Spartanburg School District 1 says Pierce taught at Inman Intermediate School.

"We are very saddened by this loss and our thoughts and prayers are with his family," District One Schools spokeswoman Sandra Williams said.

Trooper Joe Hovis with the S.C. Highway Patrol said charges are pending.
