Suspect Wanted In Deadly McDowell Co. Shooting

MARION, NC - Officers are searching for a suspect following the shooting death of a man in a truck in the parking lot of the Kwik Mart in Marion.

Officers say a customer noticed a Chevrolet Silverado and found the driver, Coty Ray Barker, dead and called 911.

Police found video footage from a surveillance camera at the store that showed someone leaving the passenger side of the truck.

The shooting is being treated as a homicide.

Marion Police and the McDowell County Sheriff's Office spent several hours searching the area for the suspect, but were unsuccessful.

The suspect is wearing blue jeans, a dark (possibly green) shirt, and dark colored shoes or boots.

Four schools in McDowell County were previously on lockdown after the shooting.

The Sheriff's Office said Marion, Eastfield and East Middle schools went on lockdown in Marion, North Carolina shortly after the shooting. New Manna Christian School was also on lockdown for a few hours.
