Huge, damaging hail falls in the Upstate

GREER, SC (WSPA) - Severe storms moved through the area Tuesday leaving behind what looked more like a winter wonderland in some areas.

Hail covered the ground in parts of Greer and Taylors.

The National Weather Service says golf-ball sized hail was spotted in Travelers Rest and Taylors.

Quarter sized hail was also reported in Boiling Springs and Greer.

There were reports of damage to cars in Greer and Taylors due to the hail.

Half a dozen flights were delayed or grounded at GSP International Airport, while some arriving flights were redirected to Atlanta, Columbia and Charlotte.

About 4 inches of rain was recorded Tuesday at GSP International Airport.

Greenville, Anderson, Greenwood and Asheville received about a quarter to half an inch of rain.

Areas that received much of the rain were also where much of the hail was reported.

No rain is expected Wednesday.
