Suspect charged after drive-by shooting in Greenwood ID'd

GREENWOOD, SC (WSPA) - A suspect in a drive-by shooting this afternoon in Greenwood is now in custody.

According to Greenwood Police PIO Jonathan Link, a highway patrol trooper was traveling down Highway 25 south near the intersection of Florida Avenue when he saw a drive-by shooting.

Link said the shooter reportedly shot several rounds into a car and the trooper pursued the shooter's vehicle to Maplewood Court.

According to Greenwood Police, the trooper attempted to stop the shooter's vehicle, but he refused to stop and tried to go around the block to get away.

The suspect -- later identified as Kavin Quantez Evans, 23, of Greenwood -- pulled the vehicle over on Maplewood court, got out of the vehicle and ran away.

Police said they had reason to believe at the time that Evans had run into a nearby apartment.

"After approximately two and a half hours, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. SWAT members cleared the residence and the scene was turned over to investigators to work the case. There was one person injured by the gunfire; their condition is unknown at this time."

Evans was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Link said a person with a gunshot wound showed up at Self Regional hospital, and they believe that to be the same victim of the drive-by shooting. They are still working to confirm that information.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time, and more charges are pending.
