Teacher's aide stole student medications from Berea Middle School, deputies say

WSPA Staff - GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) - A teacher's aide at Berea Middle School was arrested after deputies say she stole prescription medications belonging to students.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says 39-year-old Casey Spargo Hamilton broke into a locked cabinet at the school and took 18 tablets belonging to students.

The theft happened Tuesday evening and deputies were called to the scene by School Resource Officers Wednesday morning.

Hamilton is charged with Theft of a Controlled Substance. She is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.

According to Greenville County Schools, Hamilton has been a teacher's aide since August 2014 and is no longer employed by the district. The district says she started as a substitute teacher in 2010 and became a homebound teacher in 2011 before becoming an aide.

According to the school's website, Hamilton was a special education classroom assistant.
