“I was dumbfounded when the doctor told me I have late-stage colon cancer.“
Those words are from a new TV ad trying to show the dangers of eating processed meat like hot dogs. But are their claims true?
Samuel Willis of Spartanburg says, “I hope its not true cause I love hot dogs I have been eating them all my life. Just great.“
The American staple can be found just about everywhere.
According to Miranda Rogers, “My youngest son he loves hot dogs.“
The commercial funded by Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine claims the meat has been linked in various studies to the development of colon cancer.
The American Institute for Cancer Research says that’s true, but the studies were done on adults not children.
They do recommend you avoid all processed meats like hot dogs and bologna. The preservatives in those foods have been found to be cancer causing.
The bottom line, do you need to worry? The American Cancer Society tells ‘USA Today’ says if you are eating the occasional hotdog probably not just try not to make it a diet staple.
