Greenville City Council decided to uphold its decision not to allow a check cashing company to stay in business.

In a public hearing Monday night, an attorney for AnyKind Checks Cashed Inc. asked the council to make an exception for the business, which has been in business for more than 20 years. However, the city, cited a zoning rule that went in effect in 2006, that forces check cashing businesses to move out of commercial areas once their leases expire as the reason to close the business. The attorney for AnyKinds Checks Cashed, which is located on South Pleasantburg Road, argued that the city is forcing the “mom and pop” business to close its doors despite renewing the lease.

City Council voted 5-1 to uphold the ordinance.
