A fire destroys an Upstate home early Friday morning. Now a family has their dog to thank for getting them out alive.
Firefighters from the Whitefield and Broadway Departments arrived at the home on Mariner Road just after two o’ clock a.m. Friday.
The mobile home is located right off Highway 29 in Anderson County. News Channel 7’s photographers recorded massive flames eating through the home when they arrived.
A family friend tells News Channel 7, the man and woman are both on disability and suffer from diabetes.
Their adult daughter was with them during the fire, but her toddler son was staying with his father and not there. Danny Gillespie says the shitzu, Lucy, scratched at the bedroom door and was barking, waking them. Everyone got out, then they think Lucy ran back in for the two other dogs.
A friend of the family found Lucy’s body in the rubble of the home late Friday afternoon. The family has buried the dog on the property along with another dog, also found dead inside the home.
The family is still searching for a third dog.
