Former S.C.Department of Public Safety Director Jim Schweitzer was honored at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Centennial Celebration Thursday in Columbia.
Schweitzer joined over four hundred people from around the state to commemorate 100 years of service. Before leading the Department of Public Safety, Schweitzer was the Special Agent in Charge for the FBI in the Palmetto State.
FBI leaders said they are remembering those who are influential in the FBI and who gave their lives to serving in it.
They also said the bureau’s main focuses are community service and fighting against terrorism.
David Thomas is the current Special Agent in Charge in South Carolina. He said FBI means fidelity, integrity, and bravery to the bureau’s 30,000 employees.
“That’s the motto of the FBI…they live, breath, and die that because that’s what the motto of the agency is”, said Thomas, “it’s the brand that we’ve come to know within the FBI and every agent…whether the past…present that have worked for the FBI understands that.”
Thursday’s event included a citizen’s academy graduation ceremony. The academy is a program that helps people learn about the FBI.
