Is an area high school haunted? Asheville is abuzz after video was captured by a motion-activated camera at Asheville High school at 2:51 a.m. Friday, August 1. In the video, a dark image –some say looks like the silhouette of a child- appears by an elevator. The image advances forward and is again captured in the hallway.
It’s something, so far, the Asheville School District says can’t be explained. Charlie Glazener, Executive Director of Public Relations for the District says, “I’m a logical person, and I wanted to be able to explain to these folks, or anybody, this is what I think it is. It’s a bat flying around here, and it casts a shadow; but then why is the shadow down here from a different angle, and it’s not in the shape of a bat?“ It’s that shadow cast on the floor that has even the skeptics perplexed.
Sarah Harrison, of the Asheville Paranormal Society says, “Well, I have watched the video and I can’t debunk it. The fact that it set off the motion detectors means something physical was there. The shape morphed into something that was human shaped. I have seen many video surveillance footage of alleged ghosts and this is the only one that I can’t debunk. Many video’s of “ghosts” are hoaxes, but I think this would be impossible to hoax.”
Teacher Martha Geitner has her own theory! “It’s a ghost. Of course it’s a ghost. It’s the ghost of some former student who is really angry with his teacher and has come back to get back with the teacher, and he’s just making himself known at this time.“
A school custodian told New Channel 7’s Connie LeGrand it’s not the first time he’s seen an image like this; but he says that’s what you can expect from a building built in 1929.

Hi. Im a security professional…we install surveillance cameras. I am the manager of Security Incorporated in Asheville, a division of The Incorporated Design Group. We work for many high end clients. I have viewed many video recordings for law enforcement following incidents where evaluations have been requested.. This is how I see this video. I do not believe it is a hoax….the chances of an individual being in the building at that hour are slim for starters. I am a gratuate of Asheville high and as I remember it, the custodians worked too hard to come back in at 3 am to “excite” anyone :)
I do not believe that it is an insect in front of the lense between the camera and the lighting.
I believe that these images were caused by an insect, probably a moth. As I see it, the insect flew between the light fixture in the center of the main rotunda and the reflective elevator door causing a shadow to appear in front of that door. This explains the diffrent heights of the two scenes in front of that door. The insect then hugged the ceiling and relocated…or another insect was in hot pursuit…it is mating season don’t ya know….watch the light level of the light fixture in the center of the main rotunda as the “apparition” passes from right to left in the large hallway opening directly in the center of the field of view…the light level increases as the “apparition” moves from right to left, and that increase follows the movement of the “apparition” in the same direction but only until the “apparition” clears the center intensity of the light fixture….I believe that this increase in light intensity was caused by the light reflecting off of the insect and into the lense of the camera, and simultaneously shadowing the light beaming towards the large opening in that hallway. One possibility is that this was a moth. A moths wing speed is too fast to display in recordings that are just a few frames per second as this recording is. Take the hummingbird moth for instance…at a wing speed of approximately 85 beats per second, that is over twice the speed of “real time” video recordings that humans see as real time at 30 frames per second. This recording has a much slower frame rate than that.

“Its not a bug on the lens because you can tell by the depth of the shadow that its not ON the lens but IN the hallway.“
That doesn’t quite make sense, because it assumes that it’s a shadow to begin with. I say it’s just part of the bug, e.g. a leg or antenna.
“As far as I am concerned the video itself is not debunkable but simply watching it. Someone needs to go in and see if they can reproduce the same results through light refractions and to see if its a glamourous prank done by bored individuals.“
Real or prank? That’s a false dichotomy. Like I said, I think it’s an innocent little bug.
It’s happened before.

No, you’re assuming that it’s in the hallway to begin with which could make it a shadow.
I think it’s just part of the bug on the lens, e.g. a leg or antenna, and because of its position it just happens to look like a shadow in the hallway.
“As far as I am concerned the video itself is not debunkable but simply watching it. Someone needs to go in and see if they can reproduce the same results through light refractions and to see if its a glamourous prank done by bored individuals.“
So you think it’s either genuine or a prank? That’s a false dichotomy. Like I said, it’s probably just a bug.
A lot like this one:

It’s a bug on the lens.
Sheesh.
I’m wondering if these goofs should even be allowed near kids.
