An historic home caught fire in Greenville Thursday afternoon, sending flames and smoke pouring through the roof.  Air 7 flew over the scene during the noon hour, and watched as firefighters from several units battled the flames and tried to keep them from spreading.

The home on 309 Hampton Avenue is listed on the county’s historic homes page.  A cause is not known at this time.

According to property tax records, the home belongs to Wade Cleveland and Seward John Travis. They said the home was currently under renovation.

Cleveland is a former Greenville County Councilman and Chief Attorney of Greenville County Schools who was accused of having explicit images of children on a district computer and at home. He has not been convicted in the case.
