28-year-old Kreshana Lynette Singleton was found alive in the woods near the Pigeon River in Haywood County say the Central Pigeon Fire Department.
Singleton was reported missing and believed to be in the water on Tuesday afternoon.
Haywood County Public Information Officer David Teague says searchers looked until 1:00am for Singleton until the high water became too dangerous.
Those emergency teams were back out at 9:00am Wednesday morning. She was found shortly before noon.
It is reported by Center Pigeon Fire Department Officials that Singleton suffered from a mental illness.
Haywood County deputies interviewed the witness who saw her disappear into the river. The witness saw her running down the road in front of his house, looking kind of strange then he sees her disappear behind a shed, finally he saw her head bobbing up & down in the river. He called 911, beginning the search.
He was surprised they found her alive because the river was so fast and high.
Teague said they weren’t sure if she slipped or jumped in the river.
