Former Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby Medford has been sentenced to 15 years in prison according to the Asheville Citizen-Times.
Medford was convicted in May for running an illegal gambling ring. The state says Medford accepted money from illegal gambling operators which he used to fund his re-election campaign.
Medford’s attorneys say the former sheriff suffers from severe back pain and tried to put off the sentencing. Co-defendants John Harrison, Ronnie Davis, and Guy Penland are also scheduled to appear in court Monday.
