A line of quick-moving storms have caused area firefighters and rescue workers to scramble to calls across Spartanburg and Anderson County. A tree fell on one home on Mulberry Street; no one was injured. An awning was blown off a gas station on Highway 9, and lightning strikes split trees near Old Furnace Road. Boats were overturned on Lake Bowen. Power lines are down all across the northern section of the county, where the majority of the damage is located. Over 1200 customers were withoput power at the height of the storm.
In Belton, storms caused downed trees, downed power lines and shaken nerves as what people called “a tornado” came through one neighborhood. There were no reports of injuries, or official reports of any tornadoes.
More storms are expected this weekend and there will be a chance for afternoon thunderstorms all next week.
