Thursday, July 24: Michaela Blanton, widow of slain Tooper David Shawn Blanton Jr., spoke to the media at Mission Hospital in Asheville Thursday, including reporters from News Channel 7.

Michaela was in ICU with her newborn son Tye when she found out that her husband had been hurt in the line of duty. She told us that she fell out on the floor in front of her son when she found out.

She told us she thought he was okay at first but then she found out he was dead.

She talks about Tye and about having one parent in heaven.

With her son recovery from surgery, she was clearly worried about how he was doing.

“If Shawn needs him more than me, then I’ll give him up to his dad,” she said.

She says her son Tye is hanging in there after surgery, and while speaking she was visibly emotional.

Seeing the story just about Tye brings tears to my eyes. One of my boys had heart surgery as a baby and I know how emotionally draining that can be. I cannot imagine making it through if I hadn’t had my husband by my side. I am truly sorry for the loss of your husband. May the Lord give you peace in knowing he is in a better place. The Bible says God is a father to the fatherless, I know he will be there to help you with Tye. God Bless.

I just lost my partner of 20 years and I know how hard this has been; but still, I just can’t imagine the situation/loss you are experiencing.

Thank God HE gave you Tye.
Also, God gives us GRACE when we need it and not before. AS you need this Grace in the following days, months and years, tho you don’t see it now, He will supply it.
I will keep you both in my prayers.
May God continue to bless you.
