Looking for a job… or to change careers?  If you like to cook, Greenville Tech has a program which might just put money where your mouth is!
Austin Craft played football in college, but heard a calling for a different position. “I’ve always loved cooking. I’ve always been a cook around the house,” says Craft. He’s in his second year of the Culinary Arts program at Greenville Tech, where today the college unveiled its new Culinary Institute of the Carolinas. It has five state-of-the-art specialty kitchens, a restaurant style dining room and an ice carving room where you can learn all the skills to succeed in the restaurant and catering business.
Called a “restaurateur of distinction” by ESPN.com, Carl Sobocinski owns five restaurants in downtown Greenville, including Soby’s on the Side. “With the amount of restaurants we have in this community, there are openings and career opportunities day in, and day out; and if other operators are like myself, anyone who comes in with an incredible skill set, we’re going to find room for them, because we want them on our team,“ he says.
Just the kind of team a former football player can join, with his sharpened skills. Craft says, “Anybody can cook. Anybody can pick up a recipe book and throw a recipe together; but to have the knowledge and work with the great people that we have teaching us here… We just learn so much, and it’s such a great opportunity.“ As they work with the cream of the crop in the kitchen.
The facility is located on the college’s Northwest Campus, 8109 White Horse Road.
