Be curious. Be courageous. Those words of wisdom come from one of the founder’s YouTube. Brent Hurley was in the Upstate Thursday visiting with students and professors at Converse College.
Hurley says good ideas are often the result of solutions to problems. “Being able to share videos was a painful experience on-line. You had to try to email these huge files.” Out of that frustration, YouTube was born. Hurley says the secrets of the video sharing site’s success are that the idea was idea to understand; the site is simple to use; and it’s fast.
Hurley’s advice for students? He suggests they take risks and see what sticks when it comes to ideas, because you’ll learn from the experience - even if it flops.
Hurley doesn’t have a favorite YouTube video, but he says “The Battle of Kruger” is certainly a highlight. It shows a baby water buffalo’s survival against the odds.
