GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The speaker of the South Carolina House says he’ll ask the Legislative Audit Council to review the Employment Security Commission.
Harrell said Tuesday in a meeting with editors and reporters from The Greenville News that he will send a letter next week asking the audit council to review the operations of the commission.
Gov. Mark Sanford was involved in a dispute with the agency last month, in part because he wanted an audit of the agency.
Harrell said he agreed an audit is needed.
He also said the agency should be under the governor’s control. He said there is no reason for a commission to run the agency.
