COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina House is meeting to set rules and elect leaders.
The House meets at 11 a.m. for a two-day organizational session.
One of the first things they’ll do is adopt rules. And that could turn into a floor fight because Republican Caucus leaders say they want them changed to allow the House speaker to appoint committee chairmen instead of having committee members appoint them.
House Speaker Bobby Harrell has no announced challenger as he seeks his second full term for that chamber’s top job.
Harrell is expected to decide which committees House members serve on Wednesday.
