Furman Visits Campbell In Next Round Of C.I.T.

Furman Athletics

Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's basketball team looks to continue its run in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament when it travels to Big South Conference member Campbell for quarterfinal round action on Saturday. Tip-off at Gore Arena in Buies Creek, N.C., is slated for 2 p.m.

The winner of Saturday's tilt between Furman (22-11) and Campbell (19-17) advances to the CIT semifinals on Wednesday, March 29. The semifinals will be streamed live on CBS Sports Network. The championship game is scheduled for Friday, March 31, at 9 p.m. and will air live on CBS Sports Network.

Furman, who won a share of the Southern Conference regular season title after posting a 14-4 league mark this season, opened play in the CIT with a dominating 79-57 victory at USC Upstate on March 16, in Spartanburg, S.C. Because the Paladins held the highest RPI remaining in the field, they were one of three teams to receive a second round bye and move straight into the quarterfinal round.

Campbell, led by guard Chris Clemmons' 25 points per game, made a run to the finals of the Big South Conference tournament before beginning CIT play with a 19-point home victory over Houston Baptist and 73-56 triumph over UT-Martin last night.

The Paladins are led by SoCon Player of the Year Devin Sibley, who has contributed 17.6 points per game. Senior Kris Acox, who added 13 points and 12 rebounds versus the Spartans last week, has averaged 12.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

Saturday's game will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the Paladins and Camels. Furman has won each of the previous four encounters, including a 79-78 overtime victory in the last meeting on November 28, 2005, in Buies Creek. A Furman victory would tie the school record for most wins in a season of 23, which was set by the 1979-80 Paladins.

The Paladins are making their second straight appearance in the CIT. Last season, Furman earned its first postseason victory in 40 years when it topped Louisiana Monroe, 58-57, in the opening round of the CIT at Timmons Arena on Daniel Fowler's buzzer-beating putback before falling to Louisiana Lafayette, 80-72, in the second round.

The 26-team CIT field is made up of non-Power 5 programs, not selected to participate in the NCAA or NIT (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-12 and SEC teams are not considered). All 31 games are played on campus sites. In an effort to minimize travel and limit missed class time, the CIT uses the old NIT model, with future round opponents determined by results of the previous round, ensuring geographic stability.

Saturday's game will be streamed on Facebook Live and the audio broadcast will be available on the Furman IMG Network at FoxSports 1440AM and via the TuneInRadio app. Ticket information for Saturday's contest will be made available shortly.
