Isolated Shower This Evening; Hot Weekend Ahead

Chief Meteorologist David Sawyer Chief Meteorologist David Sawyer
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Good Friday Evening! I'm WNCT 9 First Alert Meteorologist David Sawyer with your forecast for eastern North Carolina.

THIS EVENING:  Slightly lower humidity will allow it to feel a little more comfortable for your out and about plans.  However, it's still the middle summer.  So, don't expect temperatures too cool this evening.  Expect partly to mostly cloudy today to produce a random shower before 11pm.  However, rain chances will be slim, only at 20 percent.  Winds will be light and variable.

TONIGHT: A quiet night is ahead. It will be mostly clear to partly cloudy overnight with low temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s inland and lower to middle 70s for coastal counties including the beaches.  Some patchy fog may form late tonight as well.

THE WEEKEND AND BEYOND:  An upper level ridge will build some hot weather across eastern NC for the weekend.  Temperatures will soar into the 90s for the weekend inland with upper 80s near the beaches.  Rain chances will be low but not zero on Saturday and Sunday.  By Monday, another strong front will bring in a chance for strong to severe storms. Stay with your WNCT 9 First Alert Weather team for the latest forecast updates on this potential severe weather maker.  Behind the expected cold front, an unusual shot of Canadian air will end the month of July cooler than normal across eastern NC.

TROPICS: A few weak tropical waves are being gobbled up by extremely dry air in central Atlantic in the same fashion as TD #2 met its demise. Tropical formation isn't likely into the upcoming week.
