A man is under arrest after deputies say he chased two people down a street while threatening them with a machete.

Jose Ramon Pandoja Ramirez, 54, is charged with two counts of assault and battery second degree by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

He’s being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on $2,000 bond.

Deputies were called to Mapleleaf Drive in Spartanburg at 6:40 pm. Thursday after a report that a man was chasing a woman down the road armed with a machete.

The SCSO incident report says the incident started when three people began to argue in the yard of a vacant house. Ramirez went to his home and grabbed the machete after insults were directed at his brother.

One man began to run away from Ramirez and warned a woman to avoid the suspect as well.

The woman fell and suffered abrasions to her knees and right elbow before both people ran away from Ramirez.

Deputies interviewed all three people involved after they arrived and arrested Ramirez because he made threats and chased them with a weapon.
