New Laurens County Crime Stoppers Focusing on Cold Case Murder

By Elizabeth Owens

Monday morning, the Laurens County Sheriff's Office held a press conference to announce the launch of the county's new Crime Stoppers organization. The group will be focusing on the death of Jim Bolt in 2003.

The elderly veteran was beaten to death inside a VFW Post 3354 in Laurens. His friends with ABATE and VFW never stopped hoping police would eventually find his killer or killers.

ABATE and VFW Post 3354 raised $3000 to donate to the Laurens County Crime Stoppers for a Bolt murder reward fund.

"They may leave town but when they leave town there friends will start calling Crime Stoppers and telling on them," Bill Palmer with ABATE said.  "We are going to catch them and we are going to catch them this year," he said.

Investigators say someone beat Jim Bolt to death in 2003.  "The bar maid came in she run the bar for Jim, when she came in she found him laying over here by the bathroom half in and half out brutally beat to death," Bill Palmer said.

Laurens County Crime Stoppers launched this summer.  Bolt's murder is Laurens County Crime Stoppers first cold case.
