For the first time ever, Laurens County has a CrimeStoppers.
Already, according to Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain, the program is paying off, with numerous leads in the last few weeks for several cases, including a cold case involving the beating death of a veteran in 2003.
In the past, no one stepped forward to organize the program or commit to raising funds.
But, about a year ago, Chastain took the initiative, approached county business leaders and discussed forming the county’s own organization.
The official CrimeStoppers group started in just the last few weeks.
On Monday, they announced the launch with a press conference by Chastain.
The group’s first big case will be the death of Jim Bolt in 2003.
Someone beat Bolt to death inside VFW Post 3354.
ABATE and the post raised $3,000 to donate to the CrimeStoppers for a reward fund.
If you have any information – or any other case -- on Bolt’s murder please call 68-CRIME.
