16 year old Katherine Magalas wins our February 2010 Caring for the Carolinas Award. She volunteers at the Spartanburg Humane Society fostering kittens that are up for adoption. She even uses some of her money to buy supplies for the animals. The Spartanburg Humane Society staff says she is one of the best volunteers they have.

Rescue efforts for a missing rafter who fell into the Chattooga River during a commercial white water rafting tour Wednesday have been suspended for the night.
Search efforts will resume Thursday morning as technical rescue teams will continue to search for the man who fell in the Chattooga River.
