Tuberculosis Scare at Greenville High School

By Elizabeth Owens

The Department of Health and Environmental Control confirms someone at Greenville High School tested positive for active tuberculosis.

School officials sent a letter to parents on August 27th stating “a person at Greenville High School last school year has been identified as having active pulmonary tuberculosis.”

DHEC says the person, who they will not identify as a student or teacher, had active TB through the months of January and May.

DHEC confirms they performed a TB skin test on about 150 students/employees at Greenville High earlier this week. They expect test results in a few days.

TB symptoms include: fatigue, poor appetite, weight loss, fever, night sweats, and persistent cough.
