Suspect Extradited to Upstate After Fatal Hit And Run Arrest

Update Tuesday 3:02 p.m.

Officials say the man accused of a fatal hit and run in Easley over the weekend has been officially charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death and driving with a suspended license.

Rufus Raiden III, 39, was arrested in Columbia Monday and has now been extradited to the Pickens County Detention Center.

Officials say bond for Raiden was denied.

South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.

Update Monday 8:20 a.m.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the man wanted in a fatal hit and run accident has been arrested.  Columbia Police arrested Rufus Raiden III at 1:30 a.m. Monday at the Columbia Greyhound station.   The Highway Patrol received a tip that he might be trying to get on a bus and Raiden was arrested by Columbia Police.   He is in the Alvis S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County awaiting an extradition hearing.  Charges are pending.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in locating the owner of a vehicle that killed at 24 year old man.

Jeremy Ryan Crain was traveling West on Pelzer Highway in Easley around 1 Saturday morning when a 1993 Chevy Pick-Up Truck hit him head on then walked away.

Crain had to be extracted from the 2002 Chevy then he was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley says Crain later died at Greenville Memorial due to his injuries.  

Troopers have a person of interest they are trying to locate.  They believe that Rufus Raiden, III, 39, of Easley is believed to have important information in regards to the collision.
