A large crowd gathered to honor a six year old who died in last year's miniature train wreck in Spartanburg.

Benji Easler was killed in the wreck that also injured 28 others at Cleveland Park last March. On Saturday morning, almost one year to the date of the accident, more than 300 people showed up at Corinth Baptist Church in Gaffney to honor him and help raise money for a playground that will bear his name.

"He was all about play and he has a lot of close friends in church and a lot of the small kids still talk about him," said Benji's father, Pastor Dwight Easler."It's close to our heart to have something in memory here, that other children can enjoy and have a safe place to play."

More than $2,500 was raised from the hot dog lunch and baked goods sale. And the success of the dinner was just another step to help remember the six year old who meant so much to so many.

"I think in many ways, it's a way for our congregation to continue to remember Benji and what he was to us all," said Easler. "We want to continue to help children in the future and minister to others through the memory of Benji and what he meant to us. It means alot to me that the church would work this hard to put that together. We've had an overwhelming response from the community today and other churches, so we are thankful for that."
