A Cowpens man is under arrest after sheriff's deputies say he threatened them while armed with a machete.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office charged Jeremy Alan Stafford with assault and battery third degree and public disorderly conduct Thursday afternoon.

SCSO deputies were called to the home on Cannons Campground Road Thursday on a report a man was threatening his family with a machete.

Stafford didn't have the weapon when they arrived, but say he pulled the machete from the back of a truck and threatened the officers.

A deputy pulled his weapon and ordered Stafford to drop the machete according to the incident report.

The deputies tackled Stafford and placed him under arrest. He was taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Center where he bonded out of jail late Thursday night.
