SPARTANBURG, S.C. -
Students at Jesse Boyd Elementary School in Spartanburg took part in a statewide tornado drill across South Carolina Tuesday morning.
After the alert went out, the schools assistant principal made an announcement for students and faculty to follow steps to protect themselves during the drill.
"Safety and supervision is our number one priority here," said Meredith Rose, Assistant Principal at JBES. "So it is important that we are prepared for anything that may occur."
Children went into the school hallways and crouched with their hands on the head facing walls during the drill.
"Our students and teachers do this quite often as part of daily procedures," said Rose, "and it is our goal that the students will then take this action and go home and have prepared plans for home as well."
