A father is dead after he and his daughter fell at a Greenville County waterfall.

The coroner’s office says 44-year-old Mark Jones of Taylors died after falling around 100 feet Sunday afternoon. His 5-year-old daughter, who also fell, was transported to the hospital and is in good condition.

Officials say it happened around 3:30 p.m. at Wildcat Branch Falls.  Investigators think Jones’ daughter may have been trying to help her father when she fell.

According to the coroner’s office, Jones sent a text message to his wife shortly before falling, stating that he was having a good time.

In a statement released through Greenville Hospital System, Jones' family said they were grateful for the support.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support,” said the family. “This is an extraordinarily difficult time for us. We ask that everyone respect the family's privacy and also ask that people please continue to keep us in their hearts and prayers.”
