Upstate Elementary School Up For Statewide Honor

Jesse Boyd Elementary School in Spartanburg District 7 will find out Monday if it won the Palmetto's Finest Award.

According to a press release, it's among the eight finalists for the SC Association of School Administrators' award. Two elementary schools, one middle and one high school will be honored. Judges focus on things like student achievement, faculty training, teaching quality and community involvement.

Other finalists for the award are: Fort Dorchester Elementary (Dorchester 2), Hammond Hill Elementary (Aiken County), CrossRoads Middle (Lexington District 5), Hanahan Middle (Berkeley County), Ashley Ridge High (Dorchester 2), East Clarendon Middle/High (Clarendon 3), and Marrington Middle School of the Arts (Berkeley County).

Jesse Boyd students, parents and teachers will meet at Chapman Cultural Center at 3:30pm for the presentation. The awards ceremony and top honors will be announced at 4pm.
