Union, SC -

A Union woman was arrested after police say she struck her five-year old child with a belt.

Clarissa LaKimberly Thomas, 30, was charged with cruelty to a child by Union Public Safety. A Department of Social Services employee called police Sunday afternoon in reference to an investigation.

Thomas admitted she spanked her five-year old son to the officer and used a belt at an apartment on Industrial Park Road according to the incident report.

Her son came home later. The officer noted he had marks on his body that matched the belt Thomas showed and said she used when striking the child the night before.

The young boy had abrasions to his neck, chest and shoulder area. He also had a bruise on his back according to the report.

Thomas was arrested and was taken to the Union County Jail. She has been released as of Tuesday morning.
