Facebook Study Says Your "Likes" Reveals A Lot Of Information

Posted: Updated:

Perusing through Facebook can be pretty mindless. You might see a photo you like, so you "like" it or a status update that makes you smile, so you "like" it. But a new study says those "likes" might tell people more than you want them to know.

A study from the University of Cambridge says it's possible to predict private facts like a person's sexual orientation, political beliefs, religion, and even if they abuse drugs or alcohol just by analyzing Facebook "likes."

Researchers looked at 58,000 Facebook profiles. They've also made an online web site - youarewhatyoulike.com for people to see what traits their current profile says about them. Cambridge is holding onto the information obtained by people using youarewhatyoulike.com but in their privacy policy they promise, "We anonymously analyze your data."
