Riverbanks Zoo Welcomes Baby Exotic Pig

Posted: Updated:

The Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia is welcoming its newest member, a baby Babirusa, which is a type of exotic swine.

The two-week-old female is the first offspring of parents Wilma and Bertello and the first of its species to be born at Riverbanks.

The nearly hairless animals have wrinkly skin and elongated legs that allow them to run swiftly like deer.

The species has always been rare, but is now considered vulnerable due to shrinking habitat and over-hunting. They are native to Malaysia.
