A man from Asheville charged with first-degree murder pled guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter.

Harry Kimmons III, 29, pled guilty in Buncombe County Superior Court to involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill after he ran over his fiancée, Jennifer Phillips, and her daughter, Erika, last May.

Authorities originally charged Kimmons with first-degree murder after they said he intentionally ran over the ladies as they were walking along Smoky Park Highway last May following an argument between Kimmons and Jennifer Phillips. Jennifer Phillips survived, but her daughter died from her injuries.

Kimmons was sentenced to 4-7 1/2 years in prison with credit for time already served.
