Lander Baseball Now Number Two In D-2 Rankings

The Lander baseball team, which went 4-0 last week including a three-game Peach Belt Conference sweep at Augusta State, jumped three spots to No. 2 this week in the Collegiate Baseball Newspapers national rankings.

 

The Bearcats, who were last ranked No. 2 one year ago (March 19) when they sported a 21-6 record, improve to 21-4 overall and 13-2 in the PBC.

 

The Bearcats opened last week with a 7-4 non-conference victory at Newberry, then swept Augusta State, 7-1, 14-9, and 11-5. It was the third PBC series sweep of the season for Lander.

 

Delta State (20-4) is the top-ranked team in the nation, followed by 2. Lander (21-4), 3. Central Missouri (13-2), 4. Mount Olive (22-4), 5. Tampa (19-4), 6. West Florida (20-4), 7. Southern New Hampshire (14-3), 8. USC Aiken (20-5), 9. St. Cloud State (9-2), and 10. Texas A&M Kingsville (18-5).

 

The second 10 are: 11. Minnesota State-Mankato (11-4), 12. Shippensburg (12-3), 13. Cal State-Chico (15-5), 14. Alabama-Huntsville (20-6), 15. UNC Pembroke (20-6), 16. Florida Tech (19-7), 17. Colorado Mesa (15-5), 18. Catawba (20-7), 19. Southern Arkansas (18-9), and 20. St. Mary's (17-8).

 

Rounding out the poll are: 21. Cal State-Monterrey Bay (18-8), 22. St. Edwards (17-7), 23. Cal State-East Bay (19-8), 24. Sonoma State (15-7), 25. Arkansas Tech (22-7), 26. Missouri Western (15-3), 27. Montevallo (19-9), 28. Slippery Rock (10-4), 29. Ashland (11-4), and 30. Seton Hill (13-4).

 

This week, Lander will host rival Erskine College at 6 p.m., Tuesday, and will entertain the University of Montevallo in a three-game PBC series on Saturday and Sunday.
