Who Is Behind The Threatening Laurens County Letters?

Posted: Updated:
LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. -

The hunt continues for the person behind a series of violent and threatening letters in Laurens County.

Robbie Vanlue is angry one person has been able to put her entire community on high alert, by sending threatening letters to the local schools, Presbyterian College, and the public safety building.

"For one person to have that kind of power that kind of control it's very upsetting," Vanlue said.

Tip lines were set up along with rewards to try and catch the culprit.

But deputies say so far few calls have come in.

"The very nature of this individual trying to hide themselves indicates the seriousness of this threat," Anderson University Criminal Justice Professor, Kelly Hamilton said.

Hamilton tells us anonymous crimes can be tough to solve.

But there are some telling clues starting with where the person chose to send the letters..

"It appears to be a localized effort to make a communication about something this individual is unhappy about," Hamilton said.

Hamilton believes the writer lives in Clinton.

You can also narrow it down by how the letter was sent, the old fashioned way, snail mail.

"Based upon the way the information was delivered you may be looking at an older person," Hamilton said.

Hamilton says one thing that's really telling about this person, is they were bold enough to send a letter directly to the Clinton Public Safety building.

"The individual has certainly drawn a line in the sand by challenging law enforcement in this particular instance," Hamilton said.

Hamilton tells us cracking this case may come down to your vigilance keeping an eye out for someone with extreme anger towards your local government.

Robbie Vanlue says she'll be on the lookout.

"I would like to be able to catch him," Vanlue said.

To put an end to the mystery behind these letters.

Two tip lines have been set up if you have information.

You can contact the Clinton Public Safety Tip line at (864) 200-4565.

You can also contact the Postal Inspector Tip line at 877-876-2455.

There is a $15,000 dollar reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the mysterious letter writer.
