GREENVILLE, S.C. -
A woman has been cited after Greenville County authorities found three dead cats hanging on her property.
Greenville County Government Affairs Coordinator Bob Mihalic stated that Cheryl Lee Ross, of 211 Church Street in Greenville, was cited Thursday morning for failure to dispose of dead animals. Mihalic said that crews found the badly decomposed animals hanging on Ross' property. He said the animals had been dead for more than 48 hours, and according to the county's ordinance, the carcass of a dead animal must be disposed of within 48 hours.
Ross was not charged with animal cruelty because she claimed to have found the animals on the road and brought them on to her property. She told authorities that she experimented on them. She has a court date scheduled for April 26 and faces a fine of up to $1,089 and/or 30 days in jail.
Mihalic stated that if Ross does not remove the hanging animals and properly dispose of them, she faces additional citations.
