HENDERSON COUNTY, S.C. -

A western North Carolina home was destroyed by fire Thursday.

The Henderson County Fire Marshal's Office says crews were called to work the house fire at a two-story home on Lake Lure Highway near Bat Cave.

An 89-year-old woman was inside at the time of the fire, but she managed to escape.

The flames destroyed the house as well as an outbuilding, then caught nearby brush on fire.  At around 3:30, crews reported between two and three acres being burned.

A chopper was called to help fight the blaze.  The American Red Cross has also been called to help the woman who was put out by the fire.
