DHEC Launches "Permit Central" to Streamline Permitting Process

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIA, S.C. -

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has a new initiative to simplify the process for obtaining health and environmental permits.

The agency unveiled "Permit Central".  It consists of a series of customer service tools that provides applicants with information about permits in simplified language.

The Permit Central Team is a panel of specialists with expertise ranging from air to solid waste to healthcare. This team will talk with applicants about business plans.

The Small Business Team is a specially trained team that will help understand the unique challenges faced by small businesses.

A Permit Central website will offer tips and advice for applicants to help them plan.  The website will also include time frame estimates, tips for expediting the process, application forms and check the status of applications.

And a board review committee consisting of a panel of three of seven member of the S.C. Board of Health and Environmental Control to help speed up the review process.  The rotating panel will work to shorten the appeals process, which is normally heard within 60 days under state law.
