Swain County authorities are investigating a case where a dog was found in a trash bin alongside a dead dog in Bryson City.

Now known as Miracle, or Mir for short, the dog was found just after 5:00 p.m. Thursday night by a Good Samaritan who saw the dog's head and paws sticking out of a trash bag and called the Sheriff's Office.

The dog had pushed his head and paws out of the bag.  After removing Mir from the dumpster, the Good Samaritan took the dog home where he contacted area vets. Swain County does not have an animal shelter, but veterinarians at Noah's Ark Companion Animal Hospital in Franklin were willing to care for the dog.

They say the dog's muzzle is injured and he may have broken bones in his face but he still wants to eat.

Chief Deputy Jason Gardner of the Swain County Sheriff's Office says authorities do not have a suspect now.
