PICKENS, SC -

Two men have been charged after a high speed chase in Pickens and Greenville counties.

Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that the incidents began at 5:25 a.m. Friday morning on Table Rock Road in Pickens County and ended two hours later.

According to Rhyne, a 2003 Mitsubishi driven by 26-year-old Joshua Stevens, of Easley, was involved in a collision at 5:25 a.m. on Table Rock Road. As a trooper was responding to the scene, he received a report of a hit-and-run involving the collision and as he was arriving, he noticed Stevens and a unidentified woman getting into another vehicle. Rhyne said that the trooper turned around in an effort to see if the two were involved in the hit-and-run and initiated a traffic stop.

Rhyne said that the trooper managed to stop the vehicle, but when he approached, the driver of the car, 24-year-old Mitchell Pierson, of Greenville, sped off. The trooper chased the car into Greenville County where the vehicle was forcibly stopped and crashed.

According to Rhyne, Pierson, Sanchez and the woman all had to be transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Pierson was charged with driving under the influence and failure to stop, while Sanchez, who remains in the hospital, has been charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a accident and driving under suspension.

Pierson is currently being held at the Pickens County Detention Center.
