PICKENS COUNTY, SC -

The Pickens County School Board meets Monday night, needing one more vote to pass a new policy on worship at meetings.

Council members passed a policy on February 25 that would put an end to student-led worship. Only prayer not associated with a specific religion would be allowed.

If passed, Pickens County School District board members would read the non-sectarian prayers and not students.

The change comes in response to the threat of a lawsuit by the Freedom From Religion Foundation over the separation of church and state.

The decision was disputed by many people who attended the board meeting in February.

The board will meet in executive session at 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Curtis A. Sidden Administration Building on Griffin Mill Road in Easley.

Board members will enter the public portion of the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
