HODGES, S.C. -

A Greenwood County woman has been arrested for income tax evasion.

Investigators with the South Carolina Department of Revenue say 52-year-old Mabel Anderson of Hodges has a current state tax liability of $8,845. She is charged with attempting to evade paying income taxes by failing to file tax returns for tax years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Officials say Anderson also filed multiple W-4 forms with her employer during these same years, claiming an "exempt" status. That caused zero taxes to be withheld from her paychecks.

If convicted on all charges, Anderson could face up to $50,000 in fines and/or up to 25 years in prison. She's currently awaiting a bond hearing at the Greenville County Detention Center.

The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office assisted with the arrest.
