GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. -

A school resource officer accused of exchanging inappropriate text messages with a student at Mauldin High School has resigned, according to district officials.

The Greenville County School District says the officer was employed by Mauldin City Police.

The school contacted Mauldin City Police when the text messages were brought to the attention of the principal on February 4.

Police Chief Bryan Turner says the texts were allegedly exchanged with a 17-year-old student.

The accused officer resigned and another officer was assigned to the school.

The chase has been turned over to the solicitor's office.
