LAURENS, S.C. -

An Upstate fire department was destroyed by flames Thursday afternoon.

Several departments were dispatched to Ekom Beach Fire Department on Neely Ferry Road in Laurens shortly after noon.

In addition to the structure, Director of Fire Service Greg Lindley tells 7 On Your Side five fire trucks were destroyed by the blaze.

There's no word on the cause of the fire, but investigators say it started in the corner of the building.

When the flames reached the trucks, authorities say the fuel tanks exploded.  No injuries were reported.

The all-volunteer fire department, consisting of around two-dozen firefighters, covers the western part of Laurens County.

Until the department is back on its feet, Lindley says nearby stations will respond to calls in that area.  Reserve engines will also be placed nearby.
