Posted: Updated:

A man's body was found by a hunter in Oconee County Thursday morning.

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis stated that a man who was turkey hunting off of Greenbriar Drive in the Friendship community called 911 after finding the body of Douglas Odell Chapman Jr. in the woods. Addis said that Chapman had been staying at his mother's home in Seneca and was last seen between midnight and 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Addis, Chapman had run into the woods Sunday morning after he saw blue lights at the scene of a motorcycle collision on Friendship Road. Addis stated that Chapman's brother told Oconee County Sheriff's deputies that Chapman was not involved in the wreck, but he came to the scene to be of assistance.

An autopsy Friday morning shows Chapman died of hypothermia.

Officials say Chapman was a registered sex offender and had outstanding warrants in several counties.  He was living in Oconee County, but had not registered his new address.
